My GSD quite regularly gives me his paw just to hold in my hand, not asking for anything other than me just to hold it like humans like to hold hands and if I let go to soon he just holds it up to me to carry on holding his paw

It’s not just German shepherds, my black lab does the same thing and when we’re at the kitchen table having dinner, she likes to put her on me when I’m done eating no I usually feed my dogs first, so when I’m done eating I’m assuming she either wants what I have, or she needs to go out after they eat so unfortunately my dogs are very spoiled so if I have nothing left over I allow them to lick my plate, and then when she’s done licking my plate I take them outside, we play ball she goes to the bathroom and then we come inside for the night! It’s definitely a process of elimination, but by now I’m sure you know your animal so you know what he or she wants.
